I returned this week from and incredible LIFE business leadership meeting in Tampa, Fl. Something special happens when you surround yourself with winners, people striving to move on. The enthusiasm that spread through the room was contagious. That lead me to the question, what causes enthusiasm? I mean many people entered the room lets just say not very enthusiastic! The speakers on stage had the great information just as before, what changed? The leaders became enthusiastic and the crowd followed!

People follow a leaders ENTHUSIASM

The weekend inspired me to come home and dig into the top five books the LIFE business recommends to read. (How I Raised My Self from Failure To Success in Selling, Magic of Thinking Big, How to Win Friends and Influence People, Personality Plus and How to Have Power and Confidence With People. Buy Now) Now I have been through the top 5 at least 8 times but there is always something to learn.

I began with Frank Bettger’s book How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success and with no surprise the first chapter is about enthusiasm!

Mr. Bettger shares how it was enthusiasm that change his career in baseball, insurance sales and ultimately his LIFE.

Frank made a conscience decision to control his fear with enthusiasm. Here is what his coach said about it:

“This new player, Bettger, has a barrel of enthusiasm. He inspired our boys. They not only won the game, but looked better than at any time this season.”

Just weeks before Frank was let go from a team because he lacked enthusiasm and was called lazy mostly due to  his fear! You can inspire others around you and over come fear with just shear enthusiasm.

How do you get enthusiastic

I let two things stop me in business, fear and bordom. After reading this book the first time it all began to change.  You have complete control over this, it is not something you have to be born with it can be acquired. How? Just by forcing yourself to act enthusiastic. To be enthusiastic – act enthusiastic! I remember trying this for myself. I was building a business where I needed to give presentations in front of groups of people. Not only was I boring I was scared to death! My fear would take over and it would be over. I remember reading this book and realizing I could turn my fear into excitement if I could be enthusiastic. In one day this changed for me, I did not get better, I just found a way to act enthusiastic. Before leaving to give a talk I found a mirror and began to run through my presentation. Wow, was I boring, no smile, no voice inflection and a look of terror!

Then a story shared from stage months earlier hit me. This gentleman struggling with the same concerns that I had found a way to fix them. He would find his way into the prospects bathroom upon arrival and give himself a pep talk, saying I am fired up and jump up and down over and over again while he smiled in the mirror. This method worked wonders until one day he tried this in the bathroom of a small trailer. You see, he was a fairly large man and when he began to jump up and down it shook the trailer off of the foundation and the whole trailer tipped over! Now thats some enthusiasm! Maybe that is a little far buy you get my point.

Here is what Frank Bettger has to say:

Enthusiasm is by far the hightest paid quality on earth, probably because it is one of the rarest; yet, it is one of the most contagious. If you are enthusiastic, your listener is very likely to become enthusiastic, even thought you may present your ideas poorly. Without enthusiasm, your sales talk is about as dead as last year’s turkey. Once you begin to acquire it, enthusiasm works constantly within you. You may be sitting quietly in your home…an idea occurs to you…that idea begins to develop…finally, you become consumed with enthusiasm…nothing can stop you.

It will help you overcome fear, become more successful in business, make more money, and enjoy a healthier, richer, and happier life.

How can you begin? There is just one rule:

To become enthusiastic-act enthusiastic.

Put this rule into action for thirty days and be prepared to see astonishing results. It easily may revolutionize your entire life.

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

Why do people quit on their dreams?

Chris Brady from the LIFE Business shares reasons people quit

Chris Brady is a best selling author and leadership expert from the LIFE Business. Over the past two decades Chris has help many succeed but has witnessed some give up on themselves as well. This is his list of ten reasons he has found.

Over the past ten years I have worked with thousands of people and sadly some fell prey to this list. I pray you review the top 10 reasons and guard your mind, so you can live your dreams. Pursuing your dreams will take all you have, but as Chris Brady says: “It will probably take all you have, to become all you were meant to be.”

Top 10 Reasons People Quit Something Worthy

IMG_2101For nearly twenty years I’ve worked with people in an entrepreneurial setting, encouraging and coaching them to fulfill their dreams and goals. I’ve seen people come and I’ve seen people go, and through it all there emerges a pattern of behavior. I’ve often been asked, “What’s the difference between those who ‘make it’ and those who don’t?”

Giving this some thought recently resulted in what I’ll call my “Top 10 Reasons People Quit Something Worthy.” This isn’t revelation from God, it’s not infallible, and it’s probably not even complete. But it is mine, and now it can be yours, too.  I hope it helps!

10. Pride – uwilling to “look the fool” while going through the necessary failures along the way

9. Besetting Sin – an addiction or something destructive in their lifestyle that tears their life apart

8. Lack of Character – they have to take their “game” elsewhere because they’ve been “found out”

7. Distractions – men fail by “broken focus”

6. Comfort – the “lure of lesser things”

5. Dream Not Big Enough – without a powerful dream there is no focus, no passion, and no long term vision

4. Relational Challenges – can’t get along with others

3. Unwillingness to Accept Personal Responsibility – blame others for lack of results

2. Self Doubt – can’t see themselves having the big victory

1. No Mental Toughness – don’t have the discipline and/or courage to hang in there when times get tough

Of course, we could debate the order of these items, and even add a few more to the list, but the point is to provide some thought starters you can use to hold up against your own life. Also, don’t get me wrong. Part of success in life is knowing what to quit! You can’t do everything, and in order to succeed mightily you must focus. So quitting “unworthy” or “lesser” things is actually a part of success. The situation to which I’m referring in the list above is when people quit something worthy, something central, something that has been their heart’s desire, something into which they’ve poured hours and energy and hopes.

Now, a couple questions:

Are you chasing something great in your life?

Are you seeking to live a life of purpose and meaning?

I hope the answer to both is a hearty “yes,” and if so, then perhaps this list can help you identify weaknesses you can shore up against failure. Figure out where you’re susceptible and do something about it. It’s these ten you’ll have to beat if you’re going to “make it.”

What I (we) hate about networking

Hey everyone, sorry if you have already read this on Chris Brady’s site but here is an incredible article on the Life Business. My new standard answer to most critical comments about networking: Exactly, thats why we created LIFE!

I have been wanting to write an article on this topic but Chris just nailed it in this blog post so here you go!

What I Hate About Networking (And What We at LIFE Sought to Fix)

LIFE

LIFE

There is something really right about a business that allows people to get started for a relatively small amount of money, work at their own pace, be their own boss, experience the responsibilities of business ownership in an actual business endeavor without huge downside risks, have the potential for high upsides, and get the tax advantages that come with business enterprise. These attributes (and others) are what originally attracted me to the profession of networking. However, as I experienced more and more of what goes on in certain parts of this industry, I quickly realized there were several things I hated about it!

I was not alone. Along with my friends Orrin WoodwardTim MarksBill LewisGeorge GuzzardoClaude Hamilton, and Dan Hawkins, we founded the LIFE company in an attempt to build a business to not only be the model of what could be in this profession, but what should be, as well. In other words, we launched LIFE to fix what we didn’t like about the industry while preserving the parts we felt were right about it.

Below is a list of my beefs with the industry, and what we are doing at LIFE to make it right.

1. No True Customer Focus – Our fix: at LIFE, we not only have a customer focus but a customer requirement. If a LIFE member does not develop at least 50PV in monthly customer flow after a brief apprenticeship period, he or she will not be paid any bonus on group volume. Also, we have the 3 for FREE customer acquisition program, in which any LIFE member, and even any customer, who gets three customers subscribing to the same or higher value package gets his/her products the next month for free! Also we have sales competitions with bonuses for the top finishers, as well as special bonus incentives on sales of particular products. We are also about to announce a sales bonus chart designed to give the smallest participants in the LIFE business a huge sales margin on products sold to help them begin earning more money sooner!

2. Gaudy Lifestyle Representations and Outrageous Income Claims – Our fix: in our business presentations we give only basic scenario-based income representations (as in, “if  you build a business that looks like this, the way the pay plan works, it would result in X amount of pay for that month”), with the largest scenario depicting approximately $9,000 per month in income. (See ourCompensation Plan brochure for this). We don’t show cheesy lifestyle pictures or videos, bikini-clad girls on yachts, or shiny bling to try and attract people to a false expectation. Our presentation focuses upon things such as obtaining more free time, better financial security, more focus upon family, travel, church and charity, etc. (We don’t go as far as talking about more time with in-laws, however!) Also, being a new company, we’ve just now completed our first full calendar year in business (year 2012), and therefore can now release an Income Disclosure Statement to inform prospective participants and properly manage their expectations (look for this in the coming weeks).

3. The Host Company Keeps Too Much of the Money – and as a result, the people in the field get to fight over the scraps. Our fix: our pay plan is currently putting approximately 70% of gross product volume (PV) into the field in the various forms of compensation. The company was not just founded by people who had come from the field, but from people who have determined to stay in the field.

4. High Sign Up Costs: We have heard of companies charging hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to join. Our fix: keep it low! Our recommended sign up cost, including sample products (three CDs, a hard cover book, a sticker, access to the LIFE business management website, and two tickets to a LIFE Live event) is just $89.99, in which the products are optional. Our goal is to keep it “less than the cost of a tank of gas!”

5. Poor Guarantees: some are confusing, very limited, or difficult to enact. Our fix: simple and straight forward, a 30 day no-questions-asked money back guarantee for all our products, including the sign up cost.

6. Trips for Top Performers: While there is nothing wrong with this, we wanted to do something a little different. Our fix: we put two very exciting trips into the compensation program for people with relatively early progress up the performance bonus chart. One is at the 6,000 pv per month level, the other is at the 15,000 pv per month level. Also, these are not business trips in disguise, but legitimate vacations. The recipient selects the trip of his/her choice from the list of available options, and takes the trip when he or she chooses. (See Incentive Trips for more information).

7. High Priced Products – our experience is that many networking companies charge super high prices for their products and then give some of this back to the field and claim that this is their “profit margin,” when in fact, the products are so overpriced no one could ever sell them for that price to begin with. Our fix: keep the prices low! For the type of informational products that LIFE specializes in producing, our competition is almost always 20 to 200% higher. For instance, our CDs sell for just $10, while most on the market in each of our “8F” categories (Faith, family, fitness, finances, friendship, freedom, following, and fun) can be found for sale from $12 to $67! Also, in our subscription packages that include books, we almost always sell the book in that month’s subscription for ten to twenty five percent below list price, as it is just rolled into a standard subscription price that doesn’t fluctuate based upon that months’ book price.

8. Inferior Products – what does this mean? It means that specific products that can easily be commoditized (produced by someone else at a cheaper price or better value, over time) stay in the company’s portfolio long after they are no longer competitive in the marketplace. This leaves those in the field leveraging their personal reputation to sell a product that is no longer the best on the market. Our fix: Informational products such as those LIFE produces cannot become commoditized because they are unique – meaning, by specific authors and speakers whose communication styles, delivery, humor, entertainment value, etc. are not duplicate-able. While the information can perhaps be mimicked by another, the brand cannot be copied.

9. Products that Don’t Matter: The other part about representing commodity products is that they really have no ability to make someone’s life better. Why spend your valuable time and energy working at something that doesn’t do any good? As my friend Tim Marks said, “I don’t want to waste my life selling tube socks and lawn chairs!” My favorite quote is attributed to D.L. Moody: “Our greatest fear should not be that we won’t succeed, but that we’ll succeed at something that doesn’t matter.” As for me, although it’s possible to make money selling commodities, I want what I do to count in the lives of people (and  yes, I understand that we all need commodities to survive, but you get what I’m saying).  I want to make a positive difference in the world.  So our fix: sharinginformation such as LIFE produces has helped people get out of debt, repair broken relationships, grow personally, break addictions, grow spiritually, and, as the tag line says, “live the life they’ve always wanted.”  To me, THAT’s something that matters.

Now don’t get me wrong. We don’t have the LIFE business perfected yet, as that would be impossible. But we are working daily to make it better and better, in an attempt to deliver exactly what people want and expect in an informational product company, and for a potential business enterprise for many. Also, while we believe that our products are for everybody, we DON’T think the business building aspect of LIFE is for everybody. It is only for those who are prepared to work hard, who are looking for something more in life than they can currently accomplish, who enjoy working with and helping other people, and who have a long-term vision and can stay the course.

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Chris Brady

Need a pep talk?

As I watched this video I could not help but smile and think of the all the people in the LIFE business who have encouraged me over the years.  Greg was kind enough to send me this link and is a friend who has always had a smile and a kind word for me.

It will take courage to accomplish in todays world and become awesome! Encouragement is the best way to help others muster up the courage to go out and succeed in LIFE.

Enjoy this video and remember to be an encourager of others! Make 2013 your year to be awesome!

Creating Memorable Moments in Life

This past weekend, I was able to experience a very special memory that will be shared by thousands of people for memoriesyears to come. Orrin Woodward and the other LIFE business founders welcomed Wayne and Raylene MacNamara to the Policy Council.

It was only a year and a half ago that Lisa and I had the same life-changing experience. There is no amount of money or material thing I could buy to surpass this experience and honor. As I watched Wayne and Raylene on stage, a rush of memories flooded my mind. The memories were not of the new house, new cars, or other material blessings that came to me. They were of friendships, late night coffee, getting lost on road trips, crying over others’ struggles and victories, and the list could go on forever. Most of my material things age and deteriorate while my memories seem to become more significant with time.

One of the LIFE business co-founders Chris Brady explains my experience in this great article. Enjoy the day you have been given and create a memory to cherish forever.

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

Memories vs. Material

This bad economy is really poorly timed, mostly because it’s happening right while we’re alive to experience it.

We’ve come out of a credit binge where easy money was available at low interest rates. This drove up a false housing market and now that the bubble has popped, millions are “upside down” in their homes (meaning they owe more than they’re worth on the open market). Jobs have dried up, income has gone down, and the bills (and the interest they carry) left over from the heady days of the boom are not so much fun now that we’re in the bust. Retirement savings are greatly diminished, and people are being forced to work longer than they had planned. While all this makes for some nauseating blame-games at the political level, at the practical level where real people live it’s a joy stealer.

Add to all this a materialistic culture that relentlessly sells us on the lie that more stuff will equal more happiness. If we could only have that latest gismo, buy the bigger house, drive the fancier car, watch that latest flat screen tv, play the newest video game, and wear sophisticated clothes, our lives would be more fulfilled and happy.

The biggest reason we believe a lie is because somewhere, deep down inside, we want it to be true.

We actually like material possessions and the latest shiny objects. We would dearly love to believe that they bring fulfillment and happiness. What could be easier? We fall for the lure of pleasure as happiness and pile on the purchases, rarely stopping to wonder why real fulfillment eludes us like the edge of a fog in a morning field.

But here is one thing I’ve learned: it’s hard to be less than happy when you can be happy with less.

I’m no minimalist. I am blessed beyond description and have nice material possessions myself. But I have come to realize that I want to spend my money a little differently than I did when, to borrow a phrase from my father, I was “younger and dumber.” After all, what is aging for if not to absorb a little wisdom? Something must accompany the gray hair and wrinkles. Therefore, I made a purposeful decision to spend more of my money on memories instead of on material.

Think about it. Does a new car or a trip with your family generate more special moments and lasting memories? How many memories do you really have of that item you just had to purchase (and likely therefore finance) eight or nine years ago? Yet how many moments with friends, family, and loved ones can you recall from throughout your life? Which do you value more?

Two and a half years into the experiment, here’s what I’ve discovered since making the decision to prioritize memories over material:

1. Life is simpler and less cluttered. Material requires upkeep and attention. Memories are maintenance free.

2. Memories don’t charge interest. Instead, merely show them interest to keep them fresh.

3. Memories keep, while stuff wastes away. This is true of our affections, too. Some of my oldest memories are the dearest, while my oldest stuff is just junk.

4. More resources (time, attention, money, etc.) are available for other (and usually more important) things. Giving and sharing are more fulfilling than buying for one’s self.

5. It’s easier to focus on one’s purpose in life. Orrin Woodward has a fantastic way of looking at this in his latest book, RESOLVED Primer, page 18, where he suggests that our Purpose is shown to be at the intersection of our Potential, our Passion, and our Profits (or fruitfulness).

6. Life is more stress-free (and therefore fun) when living well below one’s means.

7. Money diminishes in importance in your life (and thereby occupies less of your thoughts) when you aren’t demanding so much of it.

8. Happiness exists more in little things than in big things, anyway.

How has this economy changed your thoughts about money?

Where do memories rank in your heirarchy of priorities?

What changes can you make today to decrease your material consumption and increase your memory generation?

Sincerely,

Chris Brady

Hello everyone, I wanted to share this post by best selling author Orrin Woodard about an incredible book that recently came out. After hearing Oliver share the details of this book at a recent conference and then having a chance to read this book I am convinced, without a doubt, the LIFE/Team is the best way to protect our freedoms and the freedoms of future generations! Join us in LIFE, we have a cause to fight for!

Enjoy, Dan Hawkins

1913 and America’s Lost Freedoms

Posted by Orrin Woodward on August 31, 2012

1913, Oliver DeMille’s new book, is a fascinating study of a crucial year and the changes wrought upon our government by the political leaders of that time. Indeed, it can be said that no year is as important for American freedoms as 1913. Oliver DeMille articulates, in a clear, concise and comprehendible style, the three key changes occurring in 1913 along with the later Supreme Court decision that solidified the governmental revolution. I believe that Oliver DeMille, in America today, is one of only a handful of men and women that grasp the Founding Generations original intentions and principles. Anyone concerned about the freedoms lost since 1913 ought to read, re-read, and share this book with others!

Just as fish need water in order to survive, entrepreneurs need freedom in order to weigh choices, develop plans, and execute strategies. However, when a government destroys the liberty of the people by assuming too much power and control, the entrepreneurs are destroyed, thus destroying the engine of all true economic growth. This isn’t an hypothesis or a pet belief of mine or Oliver’s but a historically reality proven numerous times over the last several millennia. For instance, look what happened to the entrepreneurs in the Roman Empire, the British Empire, the Soviet Empire, and now, sadly, the American Empire. In truth, empires historically have sacrificed the freedoms of the masses for the power of the few.

Have you read 1913 yet? What were your thoughts on Oliver’s new book? What part can you play in educating the West on its lost freedoms? If you haven’t read it, then get over to the LIFE site and pick it up today!

Sincerely,

Orrin Woodward

Are you building your pipeline?

Hey Everyone,

I was thinking through what the LIFE business offers and came across this short video that explains the Parable of the Pipeline.

The LIFE Founders (Orrin Woodward, Chris Brady, Tim Marks, Claude Hamilton, George Guzzardo, Bill Lewis and my self) are doing their part to provide the best business to offer this kind of income and lifestyle to anyone willing to do the work.

In todays economy everyone should be investing in a self directed education and building a pipeline, why not join LIFE and do both!

God bless, Dan Hawkins

Hey everyone, we wanted to share this recognition from Richard and Jammie Fisher. The information that the LIFE Founders have packed into the Mental Fitness Challenge is LIFE changing. We love to see couples who go out and implement this information in their lives, prove the value by application, and than go out and help others do the same.

Lisa and I remember getting Brian and Amy started, and watching them apply this information over the years. They have been through many ups and downs in business and life, but like the saying goes, “when the going gets tough the tough get going.” When this family hits obstacles, instead of pointing fingers and having a pity party, they take personal responsibly and make the changes necessary to grow!

Thank you Brian and Amy for being great examples for everyone around you. Keep learning, growing and leading; you are making a difference!

God bless, Dan and Lisa Hawkins

New Turbo 25 on LIFE Team

Christian FamilyBrian and Amy Christian came into the information LIFE offers with two children, a mortgage, a home improvement loan, a car payment, a truck payment, a camper payment, and a Great Dane. They both came from bigger families and were told to get good grades, graduate college, and get a good job and you will be great! They had a good marriage, but were not able to spend time together due to their careers and everything else they juggled. Brian has worked for a water conditioning company for over 20 years, since he was a teenager. He found his passion working as a paid on call firefighter. He served on boards for the department and was a firefighter of the year. Amy worked with delinquent youth and individuals with disabilities to help them obtain employment. She served on many community committees, local chambers of commerce and was a big sister for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Amy was openly looking for another way of life! Daily she would cry going to work after dropping off her kids at daycare. Amy was contacted by an old coworker and Dan and Lisa Hawkins showed her this idea. She jumped at it! Brian was not as excited, but wanted to support her.

They said the impact the LIFE business has had on their family is beyond measure. Every single part of their lives has been touched by this information. They continue to grow everyday in their faith, marriage, relationships and parenting.   They are down a home improvement loan, a car payment, a truck payment, a camper payment, and a Great Dane, and have added a 7-year-old Labrador.  Amy is home schooling their children and they have lunch with Brian everyday.

Their son Nash states, “The biggest rewards from LIFE are that his Dad and Mom are working together to help other people.  Even though they have to leave us with a babysitter sometimes; it is worth it!” He feels having Mom at home and home schooling are the best. Nash love to write the names of the people that we are helping up on our patio door.

Maren, their daughter, thinks that the biggest blessing is Jesus Christ in their lives. She loves that her family all worked together to hit their goal. She liked calling her Dad and telling him each person they helped get this information on the way toward hitting their goal.

Amy said, “As a family we talked about our goal everyday and what the schedule was, so that we all knew what our roles. Once you get principle-based thinking in your head and in your family culture, the family unit becomes so strong.”

Brian and Amy feel it is their calling to bring back strong families to our nation.  We see them constantly growing, serving their team, their community and individuals who they know in whatever areas that they can.  Their family had a goal to hit in order to a hotel and indoor water park, and they did it!  The faith and perseverance to run together no matter how long or what it took to hit this goal tells us that this family is on track to live out their calling and lead many others to do the same.  At a time when our nation needs it most and in a situation where they could have chosen to leave well enough alone, the Christians chose to stand up and lead.  We are thankful for their example and achievements, and excited for what is to come.

Information –> Actions –> Results

This small formula is causing success or failure in your life. The 90 Mental Fitness Challenge was developed to challenge your thinking and give you new information. New information leads to new actions, and new actions lead to better results.

So many people get stuck in the action phase, not liking the results, instead of changing, just stay busy doing more of the same.  Albert Einstein is quoted as saying “the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result.” Unfortunately, many people, spend all of their time in the wrong actions because they feel they do not have time to get new information.

The MFC was designed with you in mind, made in small bite size pieces you can easily work into your day. Read 15 minutes, listen to some audios on your way to work, school or maybe playing in the background while you work around the house, and find ten minutes to watch a video by leadership experts Orrin Woodward and Chris Brady.

Ideas have consequences, are you happy with yours? Take the Mental Fitness Challenge today and start to build a better tomorrow!

God bless,

Dan Hawkins

Here is a video by best selling author Orrin Woodward. Watch as Orrin connects resolutions with some of the greatest minds of the past. The Mental Fitness Challenge is about creating the best you.

George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Jonathan Edwards were all 18th century colonial Americans who made a difference in the world. What did they have in common? Each developed resolutions to live their life by. Today, the Mental Fitness Challenge (MFC) captures the wisdom of the ages into a 90-day program for long-term success, founded upon the wisdom of the ages.

Enter the Mental Fitness Challenge. Designed around the 13 resolutions put forth in Orrin Woodward’s best selling book, RESOLVED: 13 Resolutions for LIFE, the Mental Fitness Program helps people live the life they’ve always wanted to live. This is accomplished the way adults learn and grow – not through expensive conferences in tropical locations, or danger simulations and artificial adventures, or even high-priced concert/seminars with public figures – but rather through small, incremental, daily steps implemented according to timeless principles, as explained in Orrin’s book.  After all, it’s the formation of new habits that brings lasting change, and this begins with exercising the mind and becoming mentally fit.

Resolve to become a better you, take the Mental Fitness Challenge today!

God bless,

Dan Hawkins
