True success through failure

Today was the first day I woke up where I was not in pain! For over a week now every morning as I try to get out of bed I can hardly move my arms and legs. Just trying to get dressed was a challenge! What used to be easy tasks were now difficult and painful. It started a couple of weeks ago when I decided it was time to get back into shape and start working out!

True success through failure picture

Why would anyone purposely endure pain that was not necessary and not comfortable? It is the only way to grow!

I have been able to spend the last couple of weeks with leadership expert Orrin Woodward.  Orrin’s approach to life in all categories is the same, no pain no gain. He has taught me so many principles over the last couple of weeks about stretching yourself, enduring pain, and discomfort to grow. The only time you will grow is if you push yourself past the normal, past your comfort into the unknown, uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Just like a muscle, if it is only used in the capacity that it can handle it never has to grow, but push past its normal usage all the way to failure the body responds by building more muscle to handle the future demand.

In leadership if you are not uncomfortable you are not growing and if you are not growing, you are no longer leading.  So many people avoid pain for happiness and comfort, when only by enduring pain (failure) can you get true happiness, comfort and purpose. A leader is always out front pushing themselves to failure so they can rebuild and become better.

We worked out multiple muscle groups and took them all to failure one at a time. There was a point where I was screaming trying to lift just 10 lbs but could not do it, failure! Next my legs, doing squats got to the point where I pushed with all my strength and yet the weights pushed me backwards, failure! Then my back, working to the point I could hardly set the weights down let alone lift another set, FAILURE!

After a day of failure in every area of my body, I left the weight room a CHAMPION, for I now know, only through failure will I grow!

True Christian Christmas

Christmas isn’t showy gifts
Or glittering decoration;
It’s honoring our Savior, Jesus Christ
In humble adoration.

It’s serving those less fortunate,
Meeting their needs before our own;
It’s making sure at Christmas time
That no one is alone.

It’s taking what we would have spent
On things that no one needs,
And using it to help someone
With service and good deeds.

Our Savior showed us how to live
With charity, faith and service.
It makes the holidays a joy,
More peaceful, and less nervous.

So let’s remember Christmas is
About our Savior’s birth;
That’s the way to happiness,
The way to peace on earth.

Jeff and Kathy Wood

We want to take a moment to recognize and introduce two couples that have recently hit the Turbo 25 level for

Dave and Sarah Hall

the first time!  Congratulations to Dave and Sarah Hall and Jeff and Kathy Wood for their accomplishment.  Turbo 25 is a level recognizing the fact that both of these couples led at least 50 people to the monthly leadership seminar in December!  Way to go Team Red Eagles!  The Red Eagles are led by Round Table members Matt and Michelle Mielke.  Dave and Sarah are musicians who have had an opportunity to serve as missionaries in Hungary.  Sarah is a psychiatric nurse.  The Halls have 5 children.  Jeff is a custom home builder and is also in the mortgage business.  Kathy is an independent hair stylist.  The Woods have 3 young daughters.  Both couples are looking forward to the day when they are able to focus all of their time and energy on building their team in LIFE.  Please take time to help congratulate the Hall and the Wood families next time you see them!

God Bless,

Dan and Lisa Hawkins

I first heard this quote from top 10 leadership expert Chris Brady at a Team leadership convention. Isn’t it amazing that when you hear the truth it just makes sense.  So many people skate through life never giving 100%. Is it fear of failure, fear of success, lack of confidence, lack of courage or are they just stuck in todays mediocre mind set?

We have all been given talents and gifts that are waiting to be opened and used. One of my favorite pieces of being part of a leadership team is the community. It is much easier to become a winner when you surround yourself with winners. I love the video Steve placed on his blog. One of the biggest things I noticed was the constant encouragement he received from his coach and teammates to become his best.

Who is in your cheering section? Who is on your mental committee? You will become like who you associate most, choose wisely!

Enjoy this great article from one of the great leaders in LIFE, Steve Leurquin.

Are You Giving 100% In LIFE?

12122011

I was listening to a leadership recording the other day by Top 10 Leadership Guru and best-selling Author Orrin Woodward in which he gave a great example from his youth about doing his best. As a high school senior cross country runner he was content with the status of being the second best runner on the team. Then, the race came where a freshman on the team was attempting to pass Orrin. That didn’t sit well with him as he had a rule that freshman do not beat seniors. He unleashed his best not only holding off the freshman but passing the team number 1 runner finishing first-team all district.

It got me thinking to how many times in my life I have settled for less then my best thinking that was all I had to give. A great movie scene from Facing The Giants shows a young man who because he is holding back his best, hurts the whole team’s performance.

“God’s gifted you with the ability of leadership, don’t waste it.”

Sometimes I shutter in one of those cold, hair standing on the back of the neck feelings, thinking about who in this world I am hurting by playing it small?

I think of Great leaders like Tim MarksDan Hawkins, and BIll Lewis. All men that lead thousands of people now but at one time were faced with the question, do I continue on my current path or do I follow the leadership road less traveled so that my light will give other people the courage to do the same? I’m glad they chose wisely!  Enjoy the journey, Steve Leurquin

Will you take this name?

I had to share this powerful poem! Enjoy and reflect!

God bless, Dan Hawkins

Will you take his name pictureThe Leadership Search by Orrin Woodward

I searched for him most of my life,
this person with the uncommon name.

I searched for him around the world,
but he refused to take my blame.

Finally, I found him,
thankfully, you can too.

However, it won’t be easy,
since he presents himself to few.

You can search our government assemblies,
but only hear from his past.

You can search our halls of learning,
reading book stories fading fast.

You can search our industrial complexes,
seeing old portraits in the aisles.

You can search our sports arenas,
reading from banners now out of style.

Everyone seems to know this person,
but no one wants his name.

We end our fruitless search,
hanging our heads in shame.

In desperation, I searched myself,
finding he was there all along.

Since no one else wants to be him,
I was forced to become strong.

I am now named responsible,
I am the man with the uncommon name.

My friend, you too have this choice,
for you can be called the same.

The search has ended
The journey is done.

Who is finally responsible?
It’s me; it’s you; we are the ones.

Sincerely, Orrin Woodward

New Turbo 25′s Lyndon and Ruthie Bell

I am pleased to announce brand new Turbo 25′s Lyndon and Ruthie Bell to the Team! Lyndon and Ruthie are putting together a powerful team down in Atlanta, Georgia. Lisa and I were able to spend 5 days with this group and they are serious about putting LIFE on the map in Atlanta.

Doing what it takes to build a winning community

Our last stretch of time with this group started on Friday night where the Team put on one of the best men’s leadership webcasts of all time. On Saturday night we were able to listen to Jeff and Tammy Darling from Texas share at the Team seminar.   Lisa and I had two talks that evening as well. The room that night was electric!  The Darlings were funny, informative, and sincere with their message! Many people left Saturday night ready to go out and make a difference. The Bell’s had record numbers at this event and are just beginning their leadership journey.  The entire team is ready for 2012! Monday night we had an amazing Team open meeting with the room packed where there were multiple guests ready to learn. The 5 day run was sprinkled with friends, food, and fun! We cannot wait to return to Atlanta, GA and help the many great leaders chase their dreams!

Y’all make sure to congratulate Lyndon and Ruthie!

I would like to take the time today to recognize some incredible leaders in the LIFE business who are using the-team.biz to grow! Gary and Erika Severson have been tearing it up the past couple of months exploding their business. Anytime you are able to put together two groups of over 100 people attending a seminar you are leading in a big way.

Developing other Leaders is key

Gary and Erika have worked very closely with Triple 100′s Steve and Jamie Leurquin to grow a large community. They have taken the principles modeled by the Leurquins’,passed them on, and are growing other leaders in the process. Just a few months ago the Steve and Kelli Sager, who are just one of the leaders Gary and Erika are helping develop, hit turbo 25!

The-life-business.com is creating change

The Seversons are leading hundreds of couples and individuals to the LIFE business, where they are empowered to change their inputs which will in turn change their lives. The feedback we are receiving both inside the team and from people just enjoying the LIFE materials is nothing short of amazing!

Make sure that you congratulate the Seversons on this great accomplishment and stay tuned for more stories and recognition this week!

This success principle was a foreign concept to me before I got started in my leadership journey in LIFE/Team. What exactly does that mean?  Define what it is you want, learn from someone who has that, then do what they recommend.  Sounds easy doesn’t it?  So why do so many people find themselves unhappy with the results they have in life?  Perhaps their pride and ego stop them from learning or maybe their lack of faith keeps them from believing.

Define Learn DoI used to get to the end of each day and think, what did I get done today?  What was different today than the day before?  Is this what hard work gets a person in life?  I wasn’t living my life intentionally.  I didn’t take the time to look at getting better everyday.  What did I want my financial picture to look like?  I wanted to be debt free, give to charities, and not get into fights with my spouse about late payments on bills.  I needed to stop taking financial advice from people in my life with credit card debt and furniture payments.  I found myself listening to audio recordings like, “- LLR 396 – The Ten Laws of Financial Management by Orrin Woodward” and “- LIFE 17 – Money as a Slave by Chris and Terri Brady”

I remember my husband posting on our bedroom ceiling how much money he wanted to have in the bank and how much he wanted us to make in a year.  I have to be honest, at first I thought, “yeah right.”  Then over time, from listening to our mentors, Orrin and Laurie Woodward, those numbers on our ceiling became a reality!  Why listen to Orrin and Laurie on financial advice?  Because they have what I wanted.  A debt free lifestyle, they pay cash for cars, and they are able to give freely to charities.

Does the “define, learn, do” principle work in other areas of life?  What about family?  Absolutely!  I defined my life as a stay at home mom, being able to instill my values and raise well mannered, respectful children.  I wanted to better understand my husband so that each discussion we had didn’t end in tears or yelling.  How was I to find that when I was surrounded by people who resolved conflict  the same way I did?

When I clearly knew what I  wanted my family life to look like, I learned from books like, The Five Love Language and  The DNA of Relationships.  I was convicted by the book, The Power of a Woman’s Words and was inspired by The Proper Care and Feeding of Your Marriage.  Once I had that information, next came the hard part, time to apply what I learned.  I found that many times after learning new information, if I wasn’t ready to apply that new found information, I would often ask myself “why?”  Why did I lack the courage to be honest with my current results?  Most of the time it was because I didn’t clearly define what I wanted and I lacked belief that it was possible to get that.

Sometimes for me I have a clear picture of what I want, I have abundant information at my fingertips, then it is up to me, not my spouse or others to make the necessary changes to live life on purpose.  I encourage you to do the same.  Clearly you are proving to be an eager student looking for information to improve upon areas of your life or you wouldn’t be reading this blog.  Now it’s up to you, you have a decision to make  Have you clearly defined what it is you want your life to look like?  Then I encourage you to start on your lifelong journey to learn in all areas of your life and then do what it takes to live an excellent and intentional life for others to also learn from.

God bless,

Lisa Hawkins
